Yearling Photo's

I'm having problems uploading photo's at the moment but will add pictures and pedigrees to the Yearling Sales posting ASAP

Yearling Sales

Bay filly: A yearling by Raise a Grand out of Exponent.
I really liked this athletic filly and purchased her at the Doncaster St Leger Yearling Sales. She has already been sold and will be trained at ONEWAY. She has a nice pedigree so we hope to get her running and winning next year as a two-year-old, with a view to becoming a brood-mare.

Raise a Grand ex Exponent

Bay Filly: A yearling by Fraam out of Crofters Ceilidh.
I purchased this filly from the same sale. She is a lovely horse, pretty and athletic, currently for sale to stay in training at ONEWAY.

Fraam ex Crofters Ceilidh

Bay filly: A yearling by Anabaa (USA) out of Bezzaaf. I purchased her from the Tattersalls Yearling Sales in Ireland. This filly has already been sold to a current owner in the yard. We hope she will be an early type and look to run her next year as a two-year-old. Her pedigree has already improved with her half sister Zefooha, by Lomitas, winning her maiden at Folkestone on the 27th July 2006.

Bay filly: A yearling by Princely Heir (IRE) out of Dakota Sioux (IRE). I bought this horse in Ireland. She is also for sale to stay in training at ONEWAY . She is a three parts sister to smart sprinting juvenile Romancero (by Princely Heir), later smart in Hong Kong (renamed Stay Young). Has won over $4 million Hong Kong dollars and is due to run this week.

Bay colt: A yearling by Mujahid (USA) out of Munakashah (IRE). Bought at Tattersalls in Ireland, this colt has been sold to the same owner as the Anabaa filly. He will be broken in, gelded and then turned away for six months as he will not be an early two-year-old. Closely related to the 2006 Ebor winner Mudawin and from the family of champion three-year-old filly Kooyonga, he’s a nice prospect.

Master of the Race: This horse was born in 2002 by Selkirk (USA) out of Dust Dancer. He was purchased by the ONE WAY National Hunt Partnership from the Doncaster August sales. We still have one share left as one of the original shareholders has dropped out, FIRST COME FIRST SERVED!
On another note, congratulations to Josh Apiafi and his fiancée Abby on their new family home and forthcoming wedding.

Master of the Race will run over hurdles from November and throughout the winter.

For anybody who is interested, Marnie will be happy to email the pedigrees of any of the above horses.

Gallop Morning

Many thanks to those of you who attended the gallop morning for the City AM Racing Club. Owners, Harry and Margaret Peel kindly emailed some pictures of City Bhoy. (Margaret Peel & City Bhoy with Nuno (riding) and Me

Sarah Hopkins from the Clifton Life Racing Club also came to visit and is pictured here with Fongalong and Nuno. Many thanks to Sarah for sending the pictures.

Congratulations to Michaela

Michaela Sowerby, our Head Lass (and amateur jockey) did extremely well this season and came second in the Bathwick Tyres Ladies Series.
Michaela and Faye Bramley were the leading contenders for the series and decided before their last race that regardless of the final outcome they would share the prize of a five-star holiday to Longchamps for Arc day.
All of the team here are extremely proud of her efforts and feel lucky to have such a good rider working with our horses on a daily basis.

With best wishes,

Busy couple of weeks

It's been a really busy couple weeks both at the yard and at the sales.

Last week I was at the St Leger Yearling Sales and today I'm off to Tattersalls Ireland.

The market was incredibly strong at Doncaster and we came away with only two purchases. However, I think that they were two great buys which I'm looking forward to training over the next 12 months or more. I'll make a post later with regard to both the fillies.

Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday we are looking for some value yearlings. This will be dependent upon the strength of the market as last week saw the most successful St Leger Sales ever with the average rising by 30% and turnover of £14.2 million gns, up 31%.

I understand the sale has been made smaller this year but there are still 638 lots in total. They are also running a New Sire Showcase with the first 73 lots all being by stallions with their first crop of yearlings.

Stallions represented in this showcase include Choisir (the Australian sprinter who won twice at Royal Ascot), Dubai Destination (who beat Rock of Gibraltar in the Champagne Stakes and won the Queen Anne), Kris Kin (the 2003 Derby Winner) and Hawk Wing (2nd to Rock of Gibraltar in the 2002 2000 Guineas, 2nd in the 2002 Derby behind High Chaparral and the 11 length winner of the 2003 Lockinge).

It will be interesting to see how Hawk Wing gets on at stud as both the winner and third horse of the 2002 2000 Guineas were both first season sires of 2-year-olds this year. Rock of Gibraltar (winner) has sired the stakes winner Roxan whilst Redback (3rd) has sired both the Group 2 winner Gilded and the Listed winner Sonny Red.
