This is the comments of one happy Club member following Bold Diktator's great win at Sandown on Saturday 28 April 2007

Hi All

Well, what a fantastic day out. The sun shone and the hospitality in

the Owners & Trainers at Sandown Park was, as usual, second to none.

Sipping martini on the lawn prior to our race at 5.30pm. Everybody who

was anybody in the racing world seemed to be there to mark the end of

the winter jump season.

Tony McCoy did not manage to ride a winner during the afternoon but

picked up the NH Jockey's Championship for the 12th time - that boy can

ride! Bold Diktator looked absolutely fantastic when he came into the

pre-parade ring - his coat was jet black and absolutely gleaming. Tom

saddled him out in the open as the saddling boxes were too warm and Bold

Diktator was well up for the big day, nearly fly kicking Tom on more

than one occasion and having two 'lads' to assist.

AP kindly came into the parade ring in time to sign a few autographs for

the Oneway RSM Racing Club members present and we managed to secure the

services of Bob Williams the racecourse photographer to take a couple of

shots prior to the race. Tom had Bold Diktator absolutely spot on, when

asked what the orders were Tom said, 'I told him if he jumped out and

wanted to cover him up that was fine, but if he jumped out and wanted to

take it up that was fine too'. I reckon it is the mark of a good

trainer to leave the jockey to do his own job without tying him into

strict orders. The only person present at the time when the race is

developing out there is the jockey and they have to take it as it comes

and try to get the best out of things.

BD did his usual trick of breaking fast out of the stalls which allowed

AP to bring him over from a wide draw onto the rails. With the other

jump jockeys in close attendance he was able to dictate the pace from

the front and BD settled into a good stride. Coming off the bottom bend

into the rising ground it was obvious that some of the horses behind

were beginning to push to cope with the hill. BD seems to prefer going

uphill rather than down and kept in an easy swinging stride. A couple

of furlongs out we were still in front and McCoy just kept niggling at

BD to keep him up to his work. In the final furlong he got serious and

gave him a few slaps behind the saddle. BD duly obliged (who would be

daft enough to try to ignore the champ in a finish anyway) and stretched

out to put his nose over the line 3/4 length in front.

Tom reported after that AP was very pleased with BD and that he was a

good horse to take the race from the front. His only concern was that

he might be a bit too fast for hurdling! I did hear from Patrick that

Tom asked AP if he would be willing to ride BD at Stratford towards the

end of the month for his hurdling debut and AP said that he would be

happy to - let's wait and see how it pans out.

BD has now had 4 wins out of 6 starts for Tom Dascombe and Tom really

seems to have Bold Diktator sorted out. I just hope that BD goes on to

be a good advertisement for Tom's very obvious abilities as a trainer

and that it brings in, not only a lot more members for the Oneway RSM

Racing Club, which has BD for one of his horses, but also a lot more

horses from people looking for a very capably young trainer who gets

results.
