Day 5 Friday 10 August 2007

I was woken up with a start last night at 10.45 p.m. by my youngest daughter to tell me she had read the blog. 'Wonderful darling, but could you ring me in the morning'. I had already been in bed an hour, my heart was pounding and it took ages to drop off again.

I went with Ashleigh and Tom to Newmarket races with What's For Tea. Walking back to the horse box I saw Frankie Dettori, which was a thrill for me. I'm not sure how he felt but he has a very engaging smile.

What's For Tea came third and it was a great day for me seeing things from the stable lad's side. They put in a great deal of work with the horses both before and after the race, walking quite a distance. They only finish when the horse is home safely no matter what the time. It can be a very long day.
