What a good week it was for ONEWAY.

Brambleberry won first time out at Lingfield on Monday, giving the Grant Thornton Racing Club a nice winner. In addition to this Belated Silver won at Wolverhampton which gave ONEWAY a double for the day. Fire And Stone finished third out of fourteen at Windsor also on Monday, which rounded the day off nicely.

Gross Prophet ran at Brighton, and Open Glory at Newbury on Tuesday, both finished mid-div.

Wee Sonny went to Salisbury on Wednesday and finished fourth, showing improvement compared to previous outings. Chairman Pat ran at Kempton finishing fifth.

Mdawee won first time out at Warwick on Thursday, giving Khalifa Al Attiyah his first winner with ONEWAY. Brouhaha finished second at Kempton, making every effort to stay on and finish well. Haafhd Time also ran at Kempton and gave ONEWAY another win for the day. Bahamian Ceilidh ran at Leicester in a ladies amateur race, under the hands of Amy Murphy, finishing fifth for her father Paul Murphy.

Valmina ran at Folkestone on Friday, however finished tenth. Six runners were out from ONEWAY on Saturday, Bertoliver and Gross Prophet went to Chester and both finished second. Tikka Masala ran at Windsor, Chic Shanique, Anessia and Where’s The Soap ran at Lingfield.

On Sunday, Fire And Stone and Orpen Grey ran at Salisbury. Orpen Grey displayed an impressive run and bolted in to win the race for The Folly Racers, giving ONEWAY their fifth winner for the week. In addition to Sunday’s runners, both Quaker Parrot and Best In Class ran at Windsor.

Last week was a very busy one for ONEWAY, with five runners at Royal Ascot.

On Monday we had only one runner from the yard, China Bay at Windsor.

Tuesday was the start of Royal Ascot, with both Antonius Moris and Don’t Tell Mary running. Don’t Tell Mary looked a leading contender for the Queen Mary after her win at Beverly in the Hilary Needler listed race, but after a poor draw the American filly was stiff competition to beat.

In spite of this spirits were up on Tuesday after Orpen Grey won the Racing UK Median Auction Stakes at Warwick. He showed more improvement since his last run and is now entered for a six furlong conditions race at Salisbury on 28th June, this race was won by Classic Blade last year.

Above Limits displayed her first try at six furlongs in The Albany at Royal Ascot on Friday, finishing sixth after having to race virtually alone for much of the way. However, every credit was deserved. In addition, Clifton Dancer also ran on Friday in the Buckingham Palace Stakes. This was her first run since coming back from Dubai.

Party Doctor ran on Saturday in the Chesham Stakes, finishing third. The team at ONEWAY was very pleased with his run and look forward to his next outing. Coloursoftheglen ran on Saturday at Lingfield, finishing second despite a poor draw.

On Sunday we were off jump racing to Hereford, where M’Lady Eliza ran in the bumper, under the hands of Sean Fox she ran on to finish second.

Last week we saw ten runners from ONEWAY. Many may consider this as a quiet week for the yard! However, all is good and well in the run up to Royal Ascot.

On Tuesday Chairman Pat made his debut run at Salisbury finishing seventh, however, thoughts are that he ought to improve on his next outing. Yellow Printer also ran at Salisbury and finished second out of fourteen runners. In addition, Bertoliver ran at Chester’s evening meeting, and worked his way back into form, finishing third.

Duke of Milan ran at Brighton on Wednesday, finishing third. Haafhd Time and Chic Shanique ran at Beverley, also on Wednesday. Chic Shanique made an improvement in comparison to her last two runs, finishing second, under the hands of Cathy Gannon.

On Thursday, both Party Doctor and Danehill’s Pearl ran at Newbury. Party Doctor finished third, however, was nicely clear of the remaining field, which gives promise for his run at Royal Ascot.

There were no runners on Friday, on Saturday both Tikka Masala and Lambourn Genie ran at Bath.

Last week was yet again, another busy day for ONEWAY, starting off with five runners from the yard on Monday, four at Leicester and one at Windsor.

Party Doctor ran a race full of promise at Leicester on Monday for ONEWAY. He got off to a green start but soon settled down and went on to finish second out of thirteen runners. Wee Sonny who also ran at Leicester, he was a little keen due to the steady pace early on, however he did well to stay on and finish third. Max One Two Three also finished third at Leicester. Tikka Masala gave ONEWAY her first win, beating a filly who has been in the first two in each of her last four starts.

Antonius Moris who was the only runner at Windsor for ONEWAY finished fourth.

Wednesday showed only two runners from the yard, both at Kempton. Brouhaha who finished sixth and Janeiro who finished second.

A trip to Doncaster was on the cards on Friday, for Diapason and Quaestor. Diapason had her first start since October, she ran a good race to finish third. Quaestor ran on to finish fifth.

ONEWAY took a trip to Epsom on Saturday for Derby Day, where both Walkingonthemoon and Barzan ran in the two year old six furlong listed race. Walkingonthemoon ran a fantastic race finishing second, Barzan handled the race very well and finished fifth.

In addition to this Hope Road ran at Worcester on Saturday under the hands of A P McCoy, giving ONEWAY another winner for the week. On Sunday, China Bay ran at Southwell, finishing fifth.

Last week showed success for ONEWAY after Don't Tell Mary won the Hilary Needler Trophy (a Listed Race, at Beverley on 27th May. Below is a report on the filly's achievement, courtesy of The Racing Post:

Don't Tell Mary looked a Royal Ascot filly in the making as she powered to a scintillating success in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.

Although the great Attraction took this Listed event in 2003, it has been a while since the five-furlong contest has thrown up a really top-class winner.

But this Tom Dascombe-trained juvenile (11-4 favourite) looks the real deal judged on what was a four-length demolition of The Hermitage, who had been up with the pace throughout.

Produced at the furlong pole, her turn of foot saw her surge readily clear under Richard Kingscote to make it two wins from as many starts. Leleyf was a further two lengths back in third.

Cashmans were quick to react with an 8-1 from 25s quote for the Queen Mary at the Royal meeting, making her second-favourite behind 6-1 market leader Misheer.

Dascombe said: "I was surprised with this filly at Bath (on her debut) and I'm surprised again. I had hoped she'd win but I did not think she would win like that."

"He (Kingscote) has given her a great ride, he's brought her there and she's run away from them."

"We'll have to keep her healthy of course, but we've got to go for the Queen Mary."

Kingscote, having just his second ride at Beverley and his first winner, added: "When daylight came she picked up really good. I always felt at the furlong pole I would get past Joe (Fanning, on The Hermitage) and when she did she had a think and then went about her business and put it to bed nicely."

"It's a stiff hill here and she was staying on well at the end. Tom has always liked her. She has really grown up, everyone has worked very hard and it has paid off."

Don't Tell Mary

Keith Trowbridge's 2yo filly Don't Tell Mary won the maiden at Bath last evening on her debut beating the odds-on favourite in the process.

This victory made several people very happy including Keith and his wife Mary (who, clearly, had found out) together with their two sons, daughter, daughter-in-law and friends of the family who were all present to greet their filly in the winner's enclosure and exhaust the supply of champagne in the hospitality lounge.

Paul Makin, the owner of Starcraft, a first-season sire, was reported to have been deliriously excited for his horse to sire a winner with his first runner.

Tom was more than a little excited as Don't Tell Mary was his 100th winner on the flat. (He had passed the 100 winner mark, overall, with the success of Gross Prophet on 5th May, but that score included three National Hunt winners)

The tail end of last week was fairly quiet with only three runners, Bertoliver and Chic Shanique at Lingfield on Friday. Then on Saturday evening, Antonius Moris, a two year old colt by Antonius Pius who demonstrated a very nice win at Warwick.

Wednesday was a busy morning for Tom, RPTV were visiting the yard as part of the stable tour and blog elements featured in The Racing Post. Tom was interviewed, and horses were filmed on the grass gallops. The stable tour video can be viewed on The Racing Post website, as part of Tom’s blog.

First 2yo winner of the season

It was hugely satisfying when my first 2yo runner of the season won at Lingfield on Saturday. Soccer had been pleasing me at home and I felt he was a nice colt and he duly obliged beating two horses with previous race experience in the Brocklesby and at Kempton. It was great to have an early winner for Harry Findlay as a 'thank you' for sending four youngsters to me for this year. Soccer will improve massively for the run and I'll find a nice novice race for him in a week or two and hope he will progress to better things. He has the advantage of being very laid back and Richard said he thought he had fallen asleep in the stalls but fortunately he woke up in the race.This win gives me a great line on the well-being of my other youngsters and makes me feel very excited about the next few months.

Three Times Lucky ?

In our first year we purchased eight yearlings at the sales, all on spec., and then spent five months trying to find owners for them. In February we were left with one, a 2yo filly by Princely Heir, which we were struggling to sell and even advertised her in the Racing Post and offered a free entry in a pro-am golf tournament in the Bahamas for the lucky owner. There were no takers. Eventually Martin Stillwell came along and bought her for the 123 Racing Partnership. Max One Two Three went on to be our star 2yo winning the Rockingham Stakes at York.

In our second year we purchased 20 yearlings, again all on spec., and the very last one we sold was Classic Blade who went on to win the Group 2 TNT July Stakes at Newmarket.

At the end of our third year we bought 22 yearlings on spec and we have managed to sell all of them apart from one, a Captain Rio colt out of Aspired (IRE). He is for sale for £12,000 plus VAT. He is a strong, athletic, racey sort who we expect to be a 2yo winner. He will be quite early.

This week saw another busy week at the yard, which ended with Tom going to the Goffs Breeze Up Sale at Kempton on Friday and coming home with two new owners and three new horses.

Lot 6, a 2007 Chesnut colt by Proud Citizen (USA) was bought by Earl William de le Warr of de la Warr Racing and Lot 53, a 2007 Bay colt by Choisir (AUS) and 62, a 2007 Chesnut colt by Danehill Dancer (IRE), were bought by Mohamed Al Attiya.

Last week was again a successful week at ONEWAY with Brouhaha winning at Wolverhampton on Monday evening and Ravi River at Kempton on Wednesday, in addition Desert Dreamer won yesterday at Lingfield.

The total number of winners for the year is twelve, eleven on the flat and one over jumps. We had four winners in January, seven in February and one so far in March, giving us a strike rate of 28% on the flat for the first two months of 2009.

Having had a double last Saturday, success continued this week with Ravi River winning at Wolverhampton on Tuesday, Best in Class at Kempton on Thursday and a win with King Red this Saturday. This win was made all the more special because the jockey, Nuno Santos who has worked for Tom since he started training three years ago, rode his first winner on his first ride.

It was a fantastic victory for Nuno and everyone at the yard making it a very memorable day.

Having had a quiet fortnight with no runners due to the weather conditions, we were absolutely delighted to have two winners on Saturday, Caprio won at Kempton and Brouhaha at Wolverhampton.
