Zaskar and Naughty Thoughts

Zaskar ran a great race at Le Lion D'Angers on Friday last to come second in the listed Prix Urban Sea. She refused to settle and her rider, Davy Bonilla, had a terrible time trying to manage her but despite everything she absolutely flew once he pressed the button in the straight and she went from a virtual last to second inside the final furlong. This gives her the coveted black type which she went to France to earn and her owners were delighted.

Later that day at York Naughty Thoughts won her third race for us since being purchased out of a seller and added a further £6,500 to her prize money. She is very well related including to some classy jumpers so she should go on to better things both on the flat and over jumps.

Naughty Thoughts makes it 50 winners since I started training

Naughty Thoughts won a four runner race at Salisbury today at odds of 4/7 , picking up over £7,000 in prize money. It was a huge relief for me as the winners have proved hard to get over the last month. Whilst I have hardly had a runner out of the first three I have had to accept second place far too often! That makes it 12 winners for the year to date and 50 since I started training in November 2005.

Naughty Thoughts was purchased out of a seller having been spotted by Martin Stillwell who manages 123 Racing Partnership. She cost about £8,000 and has now won two races for us amply repaying that investment.

Shiva Adiva came second in only her second race at 20/1 to the favourite Sun Ship. It was a hugely encouraging run and her owners Stephen & Michelle Bayless, who bred her, were absolutely thrilled.

Naughty Thoughts 5.05 pm at Folkestone

The Racing Post's verdict is:

Tom Dascombe has quickly made a name for himself and he could have made a shrewd purchase in Naughty Thoughts (nap) who is bred to be fully effective over this trip and made a good start for him at Wolverhampton last time.

Naughty Thoughts wins under Ross Atkinson

Congratulations to Martin Stillwell who runs 123 Racing Partnership for deciding to buy Naughty Thoughts the winner of a seller at Lingfield. She rewarded him by winning her first handicap under a fine ride from Ross Atkinson who was having only his sixth winner.

The Racing Post commented as follows:

A moderate affair, run at a modest pace. NAUGHTY THOUGHTS, who had opened her account in a seller at Lingfield last time, probably did not need to improve any on that effort to see off Ermine Grey. She was more patiently ridden than when fourth in a handicap over course and distance a month ago, and the change of tactics seems to suit her.

This was the eighth winner of the year from only 15 runners.

Declarations and entries w/c 3 March 2008

Desert Dreamer runs today at Lingfield at 3.40 in a class 5 handicap over 7 furlongs and Richard Kingscote rides. We claimed the horse the last time he ran at Lingfield when he was a close second over the same distance.

Tomorrow Savile's Delight runs at Southwell at 2.10 in a class 5 handicap over 5 furlongs and Richard will be in the plate.

On Saturday Naughty Thoughts is entered at Wolverhampton's evening meeting at 7.10 in an apprentice handicap over 1 mile and an extended furlong. You will recall that the horse was entered last week but was not declared as her handicap rating did not go up after her win in the seller and she would have had to run under a 6lb penalty.
